South Africa appeared only four times in the week's coverage – a minimum that confirms a broader phenomenon: South African press, usually active on Middle East wars when they affect oil prices, chose this week not to cover the Iranian conflict, likely to avoid highlighting the government's inability to cope with rising fuel prices.

The silence may also reflect government pressure to avoid signaling a structural dependence on imported fuel through fragile supply chains. The result: the African traveler discovers flight cancellations at the check-in counter, not in their newspaper.
