A week after approximately 72,000 migrants arrived in Ceuta at the end of July, Spain introduced border controls on travelers from Italy on Saturday, August 8, until September 7, in response to Rome's decision to extend its own Schengen suspension until August 15. The human toll continues to mount: at least 141 deaths, according to the Moroccan NGO AMDH, including 80 confirmed on the Spanish side, with 82 bodies autopsied and only 6 identified; between 3,000 and 5,000 migrants, including 1,342 unaccompanied minors, remain in the enclave. An analysis by the group 411, reported by The Guardian, found that accounts linked to Russia reached over half a million people by amplifying the crisis on social media.
