FIFA President Gianni Infantino withdrew, on July 31, 2026, his "FIFA Forward Enterprise" project aimed at ceding 20% of World Cup commercial rights to private investors to raise $4.2 billion. He convened on August 5 an emergency meeting of FIFA leaders in Rabat, Morocco. Several federations, including Wales, England, Finland, Serbia, and Sweden, withdrew their support for his reelection planned for March 2027, while UEFA issued a summons to 18 FIFA officials to preserve their documents. The African Football Confederation, led by Patrice Motsepe, has taken no official position against Infantino.
