ANALYSIS
New Delhi, October 19, 2026. Indian media is covering Donald Trump's support for Benyamin Netanyahou from two angles: the American message on Iran and the place the Israeli Prime Minister gives to India in his alliance strategy.
According to The Hindu Business Line, the American president posted on Truth Social a "complete and total endorsement" of the Israeli leader, whom he presents as a "Great Warrior Prime Minister" and a "Partner for Peace" in the confrontation with Tehran. Donald Trump recalls the 51-year-old Iranian slogan, "Death to Israel, Death to America", judges Iran to be militarily and financially weakened, and warns that the United States and its allies "will soon finish the job" if Tehran does not change course.
The newspaper emphasizes the link established between the election and American policy: if Israel chooses the "wrong Leader", understood as anyone other than Benyamin Netanyahou, Washington could have to face Iran alone, which Donald Trump says he is "not inclined" to do. The text also highlights the Prime Minister's resilience under political pressure, described as "Strong, Brave, and Brilliant".
NDTV notes that the election is expected to be close and that the Likud has released a video where Benyamin Netanyahou claims to have "crushed Iran" with the American president, and wants, in the event of re-election, to "eliminate the Iranian threat within two years, or even sooner".
The Free Press Journal highlights another aspect, closer to New Delhi. On Sunday, when presenting his security doctrine nine days before the October 27 vote, Benyamin Netanyahou warned that, "in two years", a US president "very hostile to Israel" could come to power. He calls for making the most of the remaining years of Donald Trump's term, then for "creating other alliances": "India is not a small country, and there are many others." He also mentions a "major change" in Latin America, particularly in Brazil.
The three articles focus on the statements of the two leaders. They do not report the reactions of the Israeli opposition, nor the criticisms of interference made in Israel, nor the official Indian reaction to the mention of India.
