ANALYSIS
Ankara, October 19, 2026. The Turkish press reports that Donald Trump gave his "complete and total support" to Benyamin Netanyahou on Sunday, nine days before the Israeli legislative elections on October 27. Anadolu and Daily Sabah quote the same message posted on Truth Social, where the American president presents the Prime Minister as a "Great Warrior Prime Minister" and a peace partner in the face of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The prioritized passage is the warning: "If Israel has the wrong Leader, which would be anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this work ourselves, and I am not inclined to do so." Daily Sabah recalls that Trump and Netanyahou launched their common war against Iran at the end of February, that Trump claims Iran is being destroyed militarily and financially, and that he promises Washington "will soon finish the job" if Tehran does not change course.
Anadolu adds statements made to the Israeli channel Channel 12: Trump says he "was always going to do it" but did not want to do it "too soon". Asked about collaboration with another Israeli leader, he replies: "Maybe I will, maybe I won't. Who wants to take the chance?" He also says it is important for Israel to have "someone to rely on".
Daily Sabah puts the announcement into the recent sequence. According to the Israeli public channel Kan, Trump had indicated during an interview in mid-June that he would likely support Netanyahou, but had to wait to see who would run. The newspaper notes that, throughout the campaign against Iran, the interests of the two men have seemed to diverge and that Trump has publicly criticized the Prime Minister in unusually sharp terms.
Anadolu places the campaign in a broader context: a leader whose management of security, the war in Gaza, and Israel's international image is being contested. The agency cites the Palestinian authorities, according to which Israel has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023, and mentions the procedure of the International Criminal Court targeting Netanyahou.
The two titles remain factual in substance and leave little room for polls or reactions from the Israeli opposition; the emphasis is on the Washington-Tel Aviv relationship and the Iranian dossier.
