Daily News Egypt reveals that the foreign ministers of Qatar and Egypt have reviewed the proposed terms of a US-Iran deal and a Gaza ceasefire. The precision is rare: Qatari diplomacy is not merely relaying the condemnation of Tehran, it is assuming the broker role. But the SCMP simultaneously reveals that Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is in Tehran with a letter from Army Chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Sharif for the Supreme Leader — a parallel mediation that short-circuits the Arab sphere and signals that Pakistan is trying to occupy the strategic space Islamabad and Doha are contesting. Doha does not like it. Al Jazeera publishes in parallel a long-form on the Lebanese angle: Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam have publicly demanded that Tehran stop interfering in their affairs. Qatari diplomacy observes an unprecedented fracture in the Shia arc. Doha keeps the posture of impartial mediator — the channel refuses to morally qualify the Iranian strikes and continues to broadcast Iranian voices. But the dual Qatar-Pakistan mediation creates a risk of fragmentation. Qatar has an argument: it hosts the U.S. Al-Udeid base and has hosted every Trump-Iran round since February. It is its bed.
