MONACO BOMBING SUSPECT FOUND KILLED IN UKRAINE
London is witnessing a dramatic conclusion reminiscent of a spy thriller, involving a manhunt, revenge, and a Ukrainian underground network
Dominant angle identified — does not reflect unanimity of this country’s media
London, July 9, 2026. The British press is providing extensive coverage of the brutal conclusion to the Berezovska case. Citing Ukrainian sources, the media outlets report on the pursuit and death of 39-year-old Anastasiia Berezovska, who was found "with gunshot wounds to the head," according to the Ukrainian security service (SBU). Berezovska, identified by an Interpol red notice as the primary suspect in the June 29 bombing attack targeting Ukrainian businessman Vadym Yermolaiev in Monaco, had taken refuge in Kyiv after traveling through Italy and Germany.
Two men have been arrested in connection with her murder: a current agent with the Ukrainian military intelligence directorate (HUR) and a former police officer. The first suspect "has confessed to the murder," allegedly committing it "with another suspect." Investigators also suspect the two men of being complicit in the Monaco attack, having "transferred funds multiple times" to Berezovska's bank and cryptocurrency accounts. A gruesome discovery was made at the former police officer's residence: a room resembling a "torture chamber," stained with blood, with axes and hammers.
The attack in Monaco involved a person disguised as a man, who was filmed fleeing towards the nearby French town of Beausoleil, before authorities confirmed that the suspect was a woman. Prosecutors Stéphanie Thiba and her deputy Morgan Raymond had described a premeditated device, with the suspect having "spent days observing the location." Two people, including a child, were injured in the attack, with one victim undergoing a double leg amputation.
The British press largely adheres to the Ukrainian institutional narrative - SBU, prosecutors, Interpol - without directly questioning the gray areas: a suspect shot rather than arrested, a documented crypto financial link established after the fact, and an investigation conducted with "personal assistance" from the head of military intelligence, Oleg Ivashchenko.
Institution-centered framing: narrative largely based on statements from the SBU and Interpol
Preference for the spectacular register (torture chamber, manhunt) over political analysis
Limited coverage of gray areas: little questioning of the suspect's execution rather than arrest
