But the narrative cracks open in Serbia's independent media. N1 Serbia headlines "Sabotage or Theater?" Austrian MEP Helmut Brandstetter responded to Orban's post with a withering "you couldn't come up with a dumber story?" Hungary's opposition, amplified by Serbian outlets, claims they'd been receiving tips for weeks that an "accidental" incident would hit the pipeline over Easter.

The Subotica prosecutor's office classified the case as "illegal production of explosive materials in conjunction with the crime of diversion." Serbia's military intelligence chief specified the suspect was a "foreign national from a group of draft-age migrants" -- a profile that fuels both the security narrative and the scapegoat theory simultaneously.

Serbia is trapped: allied to Russia by hydrocarbons, aspiring to the EU by ambition, and an involuntary hostage of Hungary's election drama.
