TYPHOON NOUL SLAMS CHINA'S GUANGDONG, FORCING MASS EVACUATIONS

Typhoon Noul made landfall overnight from 25 to 26 July 2026 near Pinghai, in Huidong County (Guangdong, southern China), with sustained winds reaching 162 km/h. Chinese authorities evacuated several hundred thousand people, suspended provincial rail traffic and halted activity in a dozen cities, including Guangzhou and Shenzhen. In Hong Kong, the Observatory raised the storm-warning signal to level 9 before lowering it to level 8, leading to the cancellation of hundreds of flights. China's National Meteorological Center called Noul the most powerful typhoon to hit China in 2026, the third tropical system to strike the country in a month.
