Warsaw, September 14, 2026. On Sunday at dawn, Polish systems detected an attack by about fifteen Geran-5 jet drones against western Ukraine. Two devices fell one and five kilometers from the Polish border, one hitting a gas station in Jagodzin, setting two trucks on fire, the other hitting a truck about 800 meters from the Dorohusk-Jagodzin border crossing. Vice Premier and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz specified that in both cases they were Geran-5 jet drones and insisted: "there was no violation of our border". F-16s, helicopters, and a SAAB reconnaissance plane patrolled Polish airspace between 4 am and 10 am; the operational command reported no incursion.

It was on the same line, a few kilometers further on the Ukrainian side, that a drone hit the locomotive of the Kyiv-Warsaw train at the Yahodyn station, two kilometers from the border. The 206 passengers, among whom there were no Polish nationals, were evacuated on alert by a surveillance group; the convoy, received by PKP Intercity, arrived at Warsaw-East with a 370-minute delay. According to Ukrainian railways, a special train chartered for European diplomats - including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and German Chancellor's advisor Günter Sautter, returning from the YES security conference in Kyiv - had left the same station fifteen minutes before the impact, which could have made it the real target.

However, on Sunday evening, Prime Minister Donald Tusk did not confirm that the passenger train had indeed been hit, a caution that contrasts with Ukrainian and German statements. The Ministry of the Interior suspended controls at the border crossing and an alert was sent to residents of the Lublin and Subcarpathian voivodeships. For Warsaw, the essential thing remains elsewhere: no violation of national airspace was observed, even if the strike, two kilometers away, confirms the vulnerability of the country's most sensitive cross-border railway line.
