The Congressional Budget Office puts the cost of the war against Iran at $38.1 billion through 1 August, about $246 million a day, with a further $2-3 billion a month if the conflict continues. More than half covers replacing munitions; extra flight hours account for $10.4 billion. The agency estimates the war has consumed up to two-thirds of US missile interceptors since June 2025. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had given Congress a figure of $37.5 billion in July.

On Tuesday evening, 8 September, Donald Trump signed executive orders banning imports of Canadian alcohol, dairy products and motorcycles from 29 September, and adding a 50% surcharge on mattresses, cheeses, paper and aluminium from 15 September. The US State Department has suspended immigrant visa interviews at its embassies and consulates worldwide, with no announced resumption date, citing in-depth training for its consular staff. Diplomatic posts say they will contact applicants to reschedule. The measure comes four days after a federal judge struck down the visa freeze targeting nationals of seventy-five countries, and a day after the announced revocation of two hundred thousand tourist and business visas.
