Riyadh, September 20, 2026. Saudi authorities have confirmed that they intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile fired by the Houthi militia towards Riyadh at dawn on Saturday, September 19. According to the Arab coalition for the restoration of legitimacy in Yemen, the royal air defense neutralized the device before it reached the capital, which has a population of over 8 million inhabitants and residents.
The coalition's spokesman, Major General Turki Al-Malki, described the attack as a new stage in the escalation by the Houthi militia, which he accuses of deliberately and systematically targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure in Riyadh. For Riyadh, this sequence confirms the reading defended by the coalition for months: the Houthi militia continues to target the Saudi capital and cities in the kingdom, justifying the continuation of military deterrence measures in the face of a perceived persistent threat.
