In parallel, the White House accuses Chinese startup Moonshot AI of having copied, through a large-scale distillation technique, Anthropic's Fable model to develop its Kimi K3 system. Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, claims that Moonshot allegedly used servers equipped with Nvidia GB300 chips accessible in Thailand, potentially circumventing American export controls. These accusations, not independently confirmed, remain attributed exclusively to the American source for now.
In Singapore, these two cases resonate with the recent warnings of Defense Secretary Joseph Leong, who cautioned during the 4th Digital Defence Symposium that technology is transitioning from a simple tool to a "full-fledged actor" capable of evaluating and acting at machine speed. The city-state, which will chair the ADMM in 2027, is counting on increased regional cooperation in cybersecurity, notably through the first ASEAN regional cyber exercise, to anticipate scenarios where autonomous systems overflow, as in the OpenAI case, or are diverted for industrial espionage purposes, as suggested by the Moonshot affair.
