ANALYSIS
Caracas, October 26, 2026. The Venezuelan press is covering the return of María Corina Machado, leader of Vente Venezuela and Nobel Peace Prize winner 2025, announced on Sunday, October 25, in a message on X: "Estoy aquí. Con ustedes." According to Runrun.es, she had left the country in early December 2025 for Oslo, and her team denounces at least seven failed attempts to return. El Nacional reports, according to journalist David Alandete (ABC), a return via Colombia with the support of several governments, the Trump administration having remained divided until the last moment.
Her first appearance took place at the Divina Pastora sanctuary in Santa Rosa, near Barquisimeto (Lara), during a mass that surprised Vente Venezuela militants. She then headed to Caracas by road, with stops in Yaracuy, Carabobo, and Aragua. El Pitazo describes thousands of people along the route, chanting "Elecciones Ya", and notes the absence of security forces members; she entered the capital around 10 pm.
The electoral demand dominates the reactions. Juan Pablo Guanipa calls to continue the liberation of political prisoners and to "exigir tener un cronograma electoral pronto". Edmundo González, who remained abroad, speaks of a "día muy importante" and announces his return "muy pronto". Politologist Enderson Sequera sees "la señal más importante" of a political transition, in a country marked by daily power outages since April.
The role of Washington is presented from several angles. Marco Rubio claims that the conditions of the return are "el resultado directo" of the reconciliation talks supported by the United States, which would have already allowed the release of hundreds of political prisoners. Dinorah Figuera, who leads the delegation of the 2015 National Assembly to the dialogue table with Chavismo, also sees it as a fruit of this dialogue. Donald Trump states: "No sé nada sobre eso, pero creo que es una mujer muy agradable", and hopes she is safe.
El Nacional places the return in a challenge to the "diplomacia petrolera" between Delcy Rodríguez and Trump. The articles do not mention any election date; the dialogue table has just opened the discussion on political guarantees and the revision of four laws that served to disqualify opponents, including Machado.
