For Russian state media, the declaration of a maritime blockade by the Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia confirms a feared scenario: the gradual escalation of a Middle Eastern theater where the Russian government sees the US already struggling to contain its own involvement with Iran. Sputnik and TASS report the comments of Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, who announced on Monday a naval embargo "effective immediately", based on the principle of "an eye for an eye" - with TASS translating it as "a siege for a siege". The Ansar Allah movement reserves the right to pursue "total escalation" if Riyadh persists, and calls on its supporters to mobilize.

The Saudi-led coalition has responded through its spokesman, General Turki al-Maliki, cited by TASS: it promises a "firm and decisive" response to any threat against ships transiting the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, describing the Houthi announcements as a "disinformation campaign" and acts of "maritime piracy" under international law.

In the background, RT and TASS relay information from the Washington Post that the Pentagon is preparing for a wider war against Iran, redeploying fighter jets and tankers from Europe. However, an anonymous American official quoted by the newspaper tempers this: "We don't have the resources to support operations safely", citing the depletion of ammunition and air defense interceptors after several months of strikes. Four American servicemen are reported to have died in Iranian retaliation, while Sputnik documents repeated Iranian strikes on American bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Jordan.

The US State Department has also issued a global travel alert, citing a "complex" security context prone to unpredictable escalation, after the death of two more soldiers in Jordan brought the total of confirmed American losses to sixteen since February, according to RT. For the Russian press, this new Yemeni front illustrates less an isolated escalation than a saturated regional system, where each actor is now acting in a logic of chain reactions, without any proven American ability to master its scope.
