ANALYSIS
Sydney, October 27, 2026. The Australian press is treating Anthropic's filing with the SEC as a market event above all. The ABC is talking about a possible "historic" listing: the company behind Claude is aiming for a Nasdaq listing under the symbol ANT, as early as next month, with a valuation that could reach $1,500 billion according to investors.
The figures from the prospectus are being reported as is. In the first half of 2026, revenue reached around $16.3 billion and the net loss was $80.7 billion (around $114 billion Australian dollars). PerthNow and the ABC specify that this loss is largely due to the increase in the fair value of convertible bonds into shares. The ABC also notes a 1,368% growth in revenue for the quarter ended June 30, while noting that the company warns that this pace could slow down.
The Age and PerthNow are reporting an adjustment of expectations. According to Reuters, some investors are now valuing Anthropic at around $1,500 billion, down from around $2,000 billion a week earlier, after an event for investors. According to sources cited by The Age, the correct range would be $1,400 to $1,500 billion, with $1,750 billion considered achievable.
The ABC's analysis compares the operation to that of SpaceX in June: $85.7 billion raised at $135 per share, with the stock rising to $161. American analyst Dan Ives sees it as a "pivotal event" for AI. Australian manager Roger Montgomery expresses local skepticism: Anthropic is attempting a "historic listing" while "the AI funding well is completely dry".
On the markets, The Age notes that Wall Street has gained: the S&P 500 is up 0.7%, the Nasdaq 0.8%. The ASX had risen 0.2% on Monday and futures contracts are announcing a slightly lower opening, with the Australian dollar trading at 70.25 US cents. The same article mentions Microsoft's layoff offers to around 60,000 employees, as part of its shift towards AI.
The risks of AI, mentioned by the ABC, appear to be at a secondary level: the company has reported the potential harm of its models to humanity, but the story remains focused on the cost of computing, debt, and the listing schedule.
