ANALYSIS
Tokyo, October 27, 2026. In Japan, the filing of Anthropic's prospectus is first read as a boon. According to Kyodo, as reported by the Mainichi, the Tokyo Stock Exchange rebounded on Tuesday morning: the Nikkei 225 index gained 1,191.64 points, or 1.92%, to 63,381.29, after briefly exceeding a 2% increase. The Topix advanced 0.58% to 3,996.17. Operators cited attribute this movement to the prospectus, which shows "rapid growth" in sales and the number of customers and "rekindles hopes" of growth in the sector. The dollar settled in the upper range of 157 yen, while the decline in WTI oil, linked to discussions on the Middle East, also supported stocks.
The Asahi Shimbun, for its part, details the file submitted on Monday, October 26, to the SEC. The newspaper reports, according to the Wall Street Journal, a targeted listing for the week of November 16, a potential fundraising of up to $100 billion, and a valuation of $1,500 to $2,000 billion. This operation would surpass the introduction of SpaceX, the largest to date, which was completed in June.
The newspaper converts the amounts into yen for its readers. According to the prospectus it cites, the 2025 revenue is more than a hundred times higher than that of 2023, and the loss, already heavy in 2025, has deepened in the first half of 2026, weighed down by accounting losses, to $80.7 billion. The funds raised will go towards computing, infrastructure, and recruitment.
The Japanese angle is also national. The Asahi emphasizes that the operation will solicit American, European, and Japanese investors, and that American subsidiaries of Mizuho Financial Group and MUFG are among the leaders. Mizuho had already participated in the introduction of SpaceX.
The newspaper quotes Arnal Dayaratna, from the IDC firm: by listing before OpenAI, whose introduction is expected in 2027, Anthropic would like to "establish the basis" for the evaluation of cutting-edge AI companies by investors. A success would, according to him, confirm the demand for AI and benefit the entire tech industry. The pages of the prospectus on the risks of AI and the control structure of the co-founders do not appear in these two articles, which focus on markets and finance.
