Moscow, September 19, 2026. Russian agencies are piecing together a war map where each side is claiming its own victories. Early on Saturday, the Saudi civil defense triggered air alerts in Riyadh and several regions, a first for the capital since the intensification of the Houthi offensive; AFP and Reuters journalists heard explosions before the alert was lifted, without the kingdom specifying the origin, according to RT.
Fueled by statements from Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree, relayed by TASS and Interfax, the Russian narrative details the successes claimed by the Ansar Allah movement: missile and drone strikes on an Aramco facility in Yanbu and the Khamis Mushait airbase on Wednesday, followed by the claimed destruction of a Saudi F-15 over the Marib governorate, filmed and broadcast in a video - a first if confirmed, notes RT, without Saudi denial. TASS adds that the Houthis claim to have intercepted two other F-15s that took off from Khamis Mushait.
On the ground, Interfax and TASS recall that Houthi forces, supported by Iran, have retaken the entire Yemeni coastline on the Red Sea - the ports of Moha and Dubab, as well as the strategic island of Perim at the heart of the Bab al-Mandeb Strait - giving them the ability to control international maritime traffic. Riyadh allegedly carried out, according to the Houthis cited by TASS, nearly 40 air raids in one day on Taiz, Marib, and Hodeidah, with civilian casualties.
RT documents Riyadh's diplomatic isolation: Washington refused to intervene militarily to preserve its channels with the Houthis, according to Trump himself, despite two appeals from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Short of interceptors, according to the AP cited by RT, the kingdom is seeking help from France, the UK, Pakistan, and Egypt for air defense, while Oman and Egypt are piloting de-escalation efforts.
RIA Novosti, citing Reuters and three Iranian sources, adds an angle that other Russian agencies are leaving out: Beijing allegedly privately asked Tehran to restrain the Houthis after a Saudi call, fearing for its energy supply routes; Iran allegedly responded that regional stabilization depended on the end of the US-Israeli conflict against it. TASS finally relays Turkey's condemnation of the Houthi strike targeting Mecca, Ankara reaffirming its support for Saudi sovereignty and calling for an end to the attacks.
