ANALYSIS
Riyadh, October 11, 2026. In the Saudi press, the attack on Saturday, October 10, against King Khalid International Airport is first and foremost an official toll. According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), cited by Saudi Gazette, twelve people were killed and 309 injured, including several in critical condition. The dead include four Saudis, two Bangladeshis, and one national from each of the following countries: the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan. The GACA specifies that all the injured are being treated in hospital, that material damage has been reported, and that airport operations were suspended while the safety of the facilities is being assessed.
The newspapers recall that the attack comes two days after those of Thursday, October 8, which had killed three Saudi nationals and injured several others at the same airport. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has invited citizens whose flights were disrupted to contact the kingdom's embassies and consulates.
The coalition's spokesman, General Turki al-Maliki, spoke of a "cowardly terrorist attack" by the Houthi militia, constituting a "war crime" under customary international humanitarian law. The joint command, he said, will respond "decisively", in accordance with this law. Asharq Al-Awsat adds that a drone was intercepted and destroyed in the eastern region, according to the official SPA agency.
The second aspect of the treatment is diplomatic. Asharq Al-Awsat lists the condemnations from Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Bahrain, the Muslim World League, the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United States, and Cyprus, which speak of a violation of Saudi sovereignty and a dangerous escalation. Saudi Gazette reports the call from Omani Minister Badr Albusaidi to Faisal bin Farhan, who "categorically" rejected the attacks on civilian facilities and insisted on diplomatic solutions.
Washington occupies a prominent place. Marco Rubio condemns the "Houthi terrorists", praises the "outrageous attack" that cost the life of an American, and affirms: "We are on the side of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia". Donald Trump judges the attack "unacceptable" and announces that he will speak with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The articles in the corpus do not report the Houthis' version or any mention of American participation in the strikes.
