The ICC condemns US sanctions against its president
On 18 August 2026 Washington sanctioned the president of the International Criminal Court, Japanese judge Tomoko Akane, and Senegalese deputy prosecutor Abdoulaye Seye. The court decries a "flagrant attack" on its independence; nine of its eighteen judges are now targeted. Eight countries cover the sequence, with three distinct positions rather than two camps.
