ANALYSIS
Copenhagen, October 1, 2026. The Danish press covered the flydubai FZ1073 flight incident throughout Wednesday, September 30, with cautious dispatches giving way to a darker account. Politiken, citing Ritzau, reported that a plane carrying 180 passengers was diverted to Saudi Arabia after a distress signal, and that the Israeli air force scrambled fighter jets, "skriver den israelske avis Haaretz".
Berlingske published an "overblik" (situation report): the aircraft emitted a 7700 code, then a 7500 code, which signals a hijacking or other illicit interference. According to flight data, it lost 5.2 km of altitude, climbed back, then dropped 2.1 km before stabilizing. It landed in Tabuk at 7:44 Danish time. The captain and co-pilot were taken to the hospital, according to the airport operator.
DR emphasized the initial confusion: the first messages mentioned a hijacking, but Israeli authorities ruled out this hypothesis. The Prime Minister's office described the situation as "under control", without an official statement, at this stage, from the UAE, Israel, or Saudi Arabia.
In the afternoon, Berlingske relayed Benjamin Netanyahu's statement: a pilot stabbed the other and "apparently" tried to crash the plane with all the passengers. He was arrested and is being questioned by Saudi authorities. The newspaper noted that the accounts remain contradictory, while converging on a confrontation between the two pilots, as also reported by several media outlets, including Sky News.
Testimonies occupied a significant place. A passenger told Haaretz that the pilots seemed to have lost control, then several passengers entered the cockpit. On Channel 12, another passenger recounted: "People started screaming." Politiken described a video published by Reuters, showing a seriously injured pilot in the aisle, with blood on his clothes and on the door.
Politiken wondered in its headline about "a jihadist attack?" and emphasized that the motive remains uncertain, but the incident has already sparked political quarrels in Israel. Flydubai confirmed the incident and a safe landing; the company stated that all passengers are safe and sound.
