ANALYSIS
Caracas, October 1, 2026. Venezuelan media are covering the incident of the flydubai Dubai-Tel Aviv flight from the angle of a major security threat. Analitica reports on "a nightmare in the sky": on Wednesday, September 30, the copilot allegedly attempted to commit a terrorist attack by attacking the commander with a knife, which forced the plane to land at Tabouk airport in Saudi Arabia.
The media details a Boeing 737 carrying approximately 180 passengers, mostly Israelis. Radar detected the transponder code 7500, presented as the silent signal of hijacking. According to Flightradar24 data cited by Analitica, the plane lost over 17,000 feet, or about 5,200 meters, in less than two minutes, while ground proximity alarms sounded.
Analitica cites security sources that the aggressor, preliminarily identified as an Omani national, attacked the main pilot with a knife with the supposed intention of taking control of the flight and crashing it. The cabin crew and several passengers allegedly entered the cockpit, neutralized the assailant, and rescued the injured commander.
El Nacional follows the events of the day in three stages. In the morning, sources from the Israeli Ministry of Transport confirm to the EFE agency a hijacking to Saudi Arabia due to an "altercation between the crew," with the pilot and copilot injured. Then the media relays the account of three Israeli passengers, in a video shot on board, according to which one of the two allegedly stabbed the other; Israel then considers the hijacking "the most plausible hypothesis." In the evening, Israel speaks of an "attempted attack," while the Emirati company calls for caution and Saudi authorities gather evidence at the airport.
The coverage remains factual and dependent on Israeli sources and agencies. It does not mention the identity of the commander or the reactions in India, and the fate of the commercial relationship is not addressed. Both media outlets report the presumed nature of the facts, and the passenger numbers (180 according to Analitica) remain to be verified.
