For the American press, the weekend of September 20 overlaps two shows of force: the drone attack that Kyiv launches on Russian territory, and the legislative election that the Kremlin organizes without real opposition. NBC News and Fox News report on the operation that Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin describes as "unprecedented", with more than 1,600 devices shot down since Saturday, including about 450 targeting the Russian capital; he sees it as an action "clearly planned to disrupt the elections", adding that "the enemy did not succeed". Two civilians were killed in the Moscow region, in Orekhovo-Zuyevo and Ramenskoye, and fifteen people were hospitalized, including two adolescents.
Volodymyr Zelensky, quoted by CBS News and NPR, claims to have targeted "one of the key enterprises of the Russian oil industry and a logistical installation of the aggressor", including Ukrainian Flamingo and Pelican missiles: "These are billions of dollars that support the war machine." He demands that Washington, Europe, and the G7 impose "new sanctions", recalling that Russia fired more than 2,000 drones, 1,700 air bombs, and 19 missiles at Ukraine this week.
