The Greek press is reporting without hesitation the announcement made on Wednesday, September 23, in New York by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio: Donald Trump has invited Vladimir Putin to participate in the G20 summit to be held in December in Miami. Naftemporiki, which followed the meetings held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, reports Rubio's words after his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov: "We hope he will accept the invitation," he said, before adding a phrase picked up by the Athens title: "If we only meet with people we agree with, we won't solve any problems."
The newspaper emphasizes, however, that nothing is certain on the Russian side: no official confirmation has been given about a possible trip by Putin to Miami. If he goes, it would be his first in-person participation in a G20 summit since 2019 — a detail that Naftemporiki highlights to measure the scope of the American gesture.
To Vima mainly retains the statement released by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before the Rubio-Lavrov meeting: Moscow asserts that "our main disagreements do not arise with the Americans, but with the Europeans," who are accused of adopting "radical and ideological" positions aligned with Brussels.
