Belgrade, September 24, 2026. The Serbian press first notes the Kremlin's reaction to the invitation issued by Washington. Spokesman Dmitri Peskov told RIA Novosti that Russia was "grateful" for the invitation addressed to Vladimir Putin for the G20 summit, to be held on December 14 and 15, 2026, in Miami, Florida, after the announcement by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Moscow, Peskov specified, "will determine its position" and examine the invitation "through diplomatic channels".

The domestic policy angle dominates the Serbian treatment. On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Russian envoy for investments Kirill Dmitriev opposed the Trump administration's method, "attached to preserving dialogue with Russia and resolving problems together", to the European Union and the United Kingdom, which he judges "mired in the logic" of former President Joe Biden. Dmitriev is himself to travel to New York for new talks with American envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, after their meeting with Putin at the Kremlin earlier this month.

On the Ukrainian side, the tone remains tense. Volodymyr Zelensky, questioned by Russian journalists asking when he would go to Moscow to discuss a truce, replied: "I can only come to Moscow in a rocket!" The day before, during an interview with Donald Trump, the latter cut him off, preventing him from answering journalists' questions about Ukrainian strikes against Russian refineries, preferring to discuss the price of diesel.

Before the General Assembly, Zelensky called for strengthened sanctions and stated that the Russian army had lost 248,964 men, killed or wounded, between January and August, according to Ukrainian data. He warned that the conflict also threatened the Baltic countries and Moldova. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha pleaded at the Security Council for an "immediate and unconditional ceasefire", while Zelensky said he was ready for a truce in the Black Sea based on Egyptian, Indian, and Turkish proposals, shifting the responsibility to respond to Russia.
