The plan, transmitted by Qatar, provided for seven days of cessation of hostilities throughout the region, including Lebanon, before the reopening of the Strait of Ormuz and the resumption of nuclear discussions, in exchange for the lifting of the American naval blockade, the end of oil sanctions, and the unfreezing of Iranian assets. What the Brazilian press retains most is the military calendar. According to the Wall Street Journal, cited by Estadão and G1, Trump remains privately skeptical about Iran's compliance with its commitments and considers a new bombing campaign likely after the November mid-term legislative elections. Washington has not struck Iranian territory since September 1, the date of a series of attacks that killed five people and injured dozens at a wedding in the southeast of the country, even if attacks on ships continue in the strait.

On Friday, before his statement, Trump had posted on Truth Social a map renaming the Strait of Ormuz "Estreito Trump", a route through which 20% of the world's hydrocarbons once passed. Since the American-Israeli strikes at the end of February, Iran has de facto control over access and maritime traffic has fallen sharply.
