According to Primicias, the American president defended his country's military offensive in the world and warned that he would use military force in Latin America if the United States felt threatened — a statement that directly puts the region, which includes Ecuador, in Washington's crosshairs.
The newspaper reports that Trump, a fierce critic of an institution he accuses of being unable to resolve global conflicts, spoke on the first day of a six-day session, whose two announced axes are the war in the Middle East and the risks of artificial intelligence. El Universo specifies that 71 heads of state, 45 heads of government, and 11 vice-presidents are expected at the podium, alongside 50 ministers and a crown prince, according to the spokesperson for the Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric; the first speakers were Brazilian Lula da Silva, Trump himself, King Abdallah II of Jordan, and then Turkish Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa is also participating in this Assembly, the last one led by Guterres, notes Primicias, which also highlights that Emmanuel Macron called on countries to build together an alternative model of artificial intelligence.
Another fact noted by the local press: as soon as his speech was finished, Trump chained bilateral meetings before an "informal encounter" with the interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, a detail provided by US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz. Primicias recalls that since the capture of President Nicolás Maduro by American forces in January, Washington has focused on restarting the exploitation of Venezuela's subsoil, guaranteeing privileged access to the United States, and that Rodríguez has aligned herself with American economic objectives.
For the Ecuadorian press, the threat launched against Iran from the podium is thus doubled with a direct warning to Latin America, in a week where the great powers parade before the Assembly against the backdrop of war in the Middle East and regional recomposition around Venezuela.
